- Measure capsule-to-capsule spacing and angle, not microphone-body spacing, when setting a stereo technique.
- For ORTF, start at 17 cm and 110 degrees; for X/Y, align capsules as closely as their housings permit.
- Balance the bar over the stand and use a sandbag if long microphones move the centre of gravity off-axis.
- Label left and right cables at both ends and record a spoken channel identification before the ambience take.
