Overview
The Glidecam HD-4000 is a mechanical camera stabilizer designed for smooth, controlled movement without electronic gimbals. It uses a counterweight-based system with a gimbal handle to isolate camera movement and reduce shake during handheld operation. Supporting payloads up to ~10 lbs, it accommodates DSLR and small cinema builds. The system features precision fore/aft and side-to-side adjustment for accurate balancing, along with a telescoping center post to control drop time and inertia. The included Manfrotto 501-style quick release plate allows for fast mounting and seamless integration with standard tripod systems. The HD-4000 can be operated handheld or paired with a compatible arm and vest system. In this configuration, it functions as a Steadicam-style rig, transferring weight off the operator’s arms and allowing for longer takes with improved control. The gimbal design helps maintain horizon stability, while the sled mass smooths out footsteps and minor operator movement. All-metal construction ensures durability for regular production use, and the tool-less adjustment system allows for quick balancing and changes between setups.

- Build the camera completely - lens, media, battery, and cables - before balancing the HD-4000.
- Set a roughly two-to-three-second drop time, then use the stage knobs for fine fore/aft and side-to-side trim.
- Keep a light guiding hand on the post; gripping the gimbal tightly transfers footsteps back into the shot.
- Rebalance after every lens, battery, monitor, or camera-position change, even when the weight difference feels small.
